The prelicensing courses that Colibri Real Estate offers are designed for students with little or no business experience. Its program includes material that sets them up for a smooth transition into real estate. Some of Colibri’s package options also include exam prep courses and continuing education (in partnership with McKissock Learning). The added assurance of Colibri’s Pass or Don’t Pay guarantee is also helpful, but it’s not available in all states or all class tiers.

Can I Take Colibri Real Estate Courses in My State?

Colibri Real Estate offers prelicensing courses in most states, exam preparation in all 50, plus continuing education and broker licensing courses in selected states. The company is continuously expanding its coverage, so we’ll make sure to update this page regularly.

Colibri Real Estate Pricing

In each school review, we priced out four of the most populous states in different areas of the country to give you an idea of what the program might cost you. As with other institutions below, Colibri usually has many package options with different offerings—basic to premium—so we’re providing you the price ranges for the programs in each of these four states. Make sure to check with Colibri Real Estate for the exact pricing in your state, as well as any discounts or promotions currently available.

Favorite Colibri Real Estate Feature: Live Q&A

We really appreciate the live chat Q&A available with some of Colibri’s real estate prelicensing packages. Students can join sessions with licensed real estate agents and brokers to ask questions about their material or the upcoming exam. This also provides valuable information about how to apply what they’re learning in the real world.

Room to Improve

The Colibri Real Estate courses are definitely text-heavy and a lot of reading is involved. Students who need a more interactive experience might prefer a school such as Kaplan

We also feel that Colibri Real Estate could improve its mobile interface. As mobile learning edges closer to the norm, students are looking for easy, streamlined offerings on their phones. While you can take their courses on a phone or tablet, Colibri Real Estate recommends using Google Chrome as your browser, and you must take final exams and unit quizzes on your desktop computer or laptop for optimal functionality.

Bottom Line on Colibri Real Estate

Colibri Real Estate’s premium courses offer not only everything soon-to-be real estate professionals need to launch their careers, but they have also expanded their offerings of broker courses, in case you’re already looking to further your real estate career. They’re now available in nine states, including New York, Illinois, California, Texas, and Georgia

The CE Shop offers a wide variety of courses and packages for real estate professionals, including prelicensing courses, exam prep, and post-licensing requirements. Also, with its custom Leap 2.0 system, The CE Shop optimizes your real estate courses for delivery on just about any platform, so you can knock out education requirements on the go.

Can I Take The CE Shop Courses in My State?

The CE Shop offers prelicensing courses directly in many states (see below). But also, they partner with other schools to provide at least some form of real estate education in all 50 states. Even Maine students, for example, can take their exam prep courses through the company.

Favorite The CE Shop Feature: Continuing Education

Screenshot of The CE Shop Continuing Education Course Pricing

The CE Shop offers some outstanding continuing education courses in unique niches. Assistance Animals in Fair Housing, Marijuana Laws in Real Estate, and Land Contract Details are just some of the topics you can learn about while fulfilling your continuing education requirements.

Every three years, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) requires its members to take a refresher course in the NAR Code of Ethics. The CE Shop offers a great course that fulfills this requirement called Code of Ethics: Good for Your Clients and Your Business.

Room to Improve

The CE Shop’s courses are all online and the interface can feel a little clunky. It can be hard to navigate backward and forward within the courses. We would really like to see The CE Shop put more effort into embedding videos and links as well. The material can be dry and text-heavy.

Bottom Line on The CE Shop

We’re impressed with The CE Shop’s affordable and comprehensive prelicensing packages. But what really makes it stand out is the library of interesting CE courses that will fulfill your state’s requirements year after year.

Favorite Aceable Agent Feature: Sleek, Easy-to-Use Interface

Aceable agent website

Aceable Agent’s platform was developed for a digitally savvy audience. Its clean, modern interface is easy to navigate and makes working and learning on the go a real possibility. So if you want to complete your classes online (either from a computer, tablet, or phone), you can.

But you can also work from well-written PDFs. You decide day-to-day how you want to consume the content. These methods clearly work for students who choose Aceable, as the school advertises an outstanding national pass rate of 91%.

Room to Improve

We commend Aceable Agent for their singular approach and focus on excellence in mobile prelicensing courses, but we know that budding real estate professionals have to think about more than just prelicensing. The company’s exam prep packages and continuing education have very limited availability, and they offer no broker preparation whatsoever.

Bottom Line on Aceable Agent

If it’s time to take the next step in your career and add “real estate professional” to your business card, we recommend Aceable Agent as it’s easy to fit their mobile courses into your schedule. They’re an ideal provider if you’re looking for an affordable, flexible course that makes it easy to balance other priorities.

If you’re looking for a company that is synonymous with quality instruction, look no further than Kaplan. The company has a long track record of preparing students for standardized tests across a variety of industries. It’s also a long-time provider of prelicensing courses for students fulfilling their state requirements and preparing for their real estate license exam.

Can I Take Kaplan Courses in My State?

Kaplan either offers prelicensing courses or partners with local schools in the states below. They also offer continuing education, broker licensing, and exam prep courses in some states.

Kaplan Pricing

Because Kaplan’s offerings are so diverse in terms of format and interaction, its pricing varies widely. The company’s completely self-paced options start as low as $149. But when it comes to live online instruction with an experienced educator and practicing real estate agent, it can quickly run you more than $1,000.

Below you’ll find sample Kaplan pricing in four states. Note that Florida real estate courses are offered by Kaplan partner Bob Hogue School of Real Estate. Make sure to check with Kaplan for course availability and pricing in your state.

Favorite Kaplan Real Estate Education Feature: Live Online Instruction

Kaplan Education feature - live-online instruction

Kaplan‘s best feature is its ability to cater to a variety of learning styles. In most states, you can choose from three different online formats: Home Study, OnDemand, and Live Online.

  • The Home Study method is a text-based learning program centered on an e-book, and is completely self-paced. It’s ideal for students who learn best by reading quietly.
  • OnDemand takes your nose out of the book with prerecorded video lessons from instructors in live classrooms, teaching the material while you follow along in your textbook. Jot down your questions, email your instructors, and get clarification about whatever you need.
  • Live Online is a virtual classroom with a live instructor. Ask questions and interact with your fellow students in real time—this format is similar to the best webinar you’ve ever attended.

Another feature we love is Kaplan’s Real Estate Accelerator. It’s a professional development course led by a highly qualified real estate agent with a ton of experience and knowledge to share. This accelerator program isn’t part of the required prelicensing course hours, but it can help you jump-start your business plan and marketing strategy.

Room to Improve

Kaplan’s interface for their OnDemand and Live Online formats is a little dated compared to what you’ll find at other online schools we’ve reviewed. Students reported having trouble running Kaplan’s programs on various web browsers, so a little bit of technology troubleshooting might be necessary.

Bottom Line on Kaplan Real Estate Education

If a live, instructor-led online experience is what you’re looking for, Kaplan is often your best option. Visit their website today to find out which courses are available in your area.

RealEstateU launched in 2013 in New York and has since expanded to 14 states, including Texas, California, Florida, Washington, the Carolinas, and Michigan. Designed for budget-conscious consumers, this is one of the least expensive programs on the market. If you put in your time and the format works for your learning style, it’s an excellent, affordable option.

Favorite RealEstateU Feature: Support at Every Step

Screenshot of a lesson on real estate fixtures from RealEstateU's online education program

RealEstateU’s greatest strength is in the support it provides students. While most online schools just focus on helping you pass the exam, RealEstateU offers plenty of resources to assist you before you start and after you’ve passed.

For example, they have an excellent and regularly updated blog, plus their FAQ section for each state is one of the most comprehensive we’ve seen. RealEstateU also offers some amazing investment courses such as Real Estate Accounting for Beginners, Motivation From a Proven Investor, and a free nine-chapter course called How to Be a Successful Real Estate Agent.

Room to Improve

We hope that RealEstateU will incorporate more inventive and innovative approaches to teaching that work for a wider range of learning styles. Currently, they offer mostly audio classes, which may work for some students, but not others. If interactive courses with a live instructor are important to you, consider Kaplan.

Bottom Line on RealEstateU

There’s really no downside to trying RealEstateU if they have courses in your state. They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee* so you can try it out and decide if it’s the right format for you. If it is, you’re getting your courses at a real bargain!

Enroll at RealEstateU

*Some states, such as Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, and Tennessee, prohibit guarantees on passing the licensure exam. Students will still be able to pick and enroll in their desired course, but the money-back guarantee won’t be honored by real estate providers from the aforementioned states.

How to Choose the Best Online Real Estate School

It might seem like a simple decision—choosing the best school—but there are many factors to consider for your real estate education.

  • Cost: Is the course package of your choice within your budget?
  • Accreditation: It’s vital that your chosen school is recognized by the state you want to work in, otherwise you won’t qualify to take the license exam. But also, many schools are accredited by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO), the International Distance Education Certification Center (IDECC), or both. These organizations develop and apply learning standards to evaluate how well the schools deliver educational courses.
  • Class format: Do you prefer a traditional classroom setting where you can easily approach your instructors and peers during classes? Or an online live stream class where you don’t have to commute but still have easy access to instructor support? You may also opt for pure online classes where you can go through the coursework at your own pace.
  • Pass rates: Does the average student of your chosen school pass the state licensing exam on their first try? Some states publish pass rates for each school, which are definitely worth looking at. In other states, you might want to compare pass rates published by the schools themselves, although the data might not always be the most accurate or up to date. Some course packages include a pass guarantee, offering money back or free catch-up courses and study materials to students who don’t pass the exam on the first try.
  • Refund policy: Some schools, on the other hand, provide a refund option for students who are not satisfied with their courses. Make sure you’re aware of your chosen school’s refund policy—if there is one.

How to Sign Up for an Online Real Estate School

Signing up for an online real estate school is as easy as creating an account when you’re shopping online. Selecting the courses you need to take is just like adding items to your cart. Of course, the number one step is to check that you’ve selected the right state when signing up. From there, you will only need to provide your personal information, email address, and payment details.

The registration terms vary per school, so make sure that you’re 100% decided on where you want to enroll. If not, then make sure that you’ve read your chosen school’s refund policy.

My Expert Opinion on Kaplan

Kaplan takes the cake for being one of the best Arizona real estate schools online for learning through interaction. Its interactive study groups are a game-changer for students who thrive on discussion and teamwork. Imagine studying in a lively, engaging environment where questions fly fast and learning happens in real time. It’s not just about reading and memorizing; the company makes learning engaging. Kaplan’s approach turns the sometimes daunting exam preparation process into a collaborative adventure.

💡Room for improvement: Kaplan could improve by offering live, in-person courses to complement its existing online offerings.

My Expert Opinion on Kaplan

Kaplan shines in its interactive learning environment. It consistently provides direct access to instructors and other students through live webinars, such as interactive study groups, career mentorship, and community forms.

Years ago, I took my prelicensing class through Kaplan and really enjoyed the format. The information was easy to digest, and the quizzes along the way helped me feel prepared for the test. Kaplan takes education seriously and even provides textbooks, like “Modern Real Estate Practice,” recommended by the same people who designed the licensing exam.

💡Room for improvement: With all that Kaplan offers, adding a pass guarantee would strengthen its already strong education model and add more value to its prelicensing and exam prep packages. Additionally, if it adds a broker-in-charge course, the company may see an increase in enrollments and keep students coming back.

Kaplan Cost

Kaplan offers various tiers of course packages with self-paced and live online options. All packages include an interactive study group and exam proctoring. However, students can enjoy add-on benefits such as live coaching and real estate math courses in some of the more expensive packages.

My Expert Opinion on The CE Shop

While The CE Shop offers an interesting array of continuing education (CE) courses that will pique your interest each renewal period, don’t let the name fool you. This NC real estate license online school is not just limited to continuing education classes. It provides everything from obtaining your license to upgrading and renewal, ensuring your bases are covered.

The self-paced, online learning style makes this school appealing to those who need a more flexible schedule. The cherry on top? The site offers a ton of additional resources to help agents succeed and grow their businesses. It also has a referral program where you can earn $25 for each person you refer, and they get 35% off on The CE Shop courses. Today, $25 might not seem like a lot, but adding it to your real estate agent referral fees can add up fast. This best online real estate school in NC is an excellent choice for students who want to immerse themselves in the industry.

💡Room for improvement: No live, interactive class or networking options make it hard for students who may need more direct engagement to learn. Adding in study groups or virtual “office hours” with instructors could improve student confidence in choosing The CE Shop as their school of choice.

The CE Shop Cost

The CE Shop is the most expensive of the bunch; however, it’s easy to see why they are one of the best real estate schools in NC. Their courses and website are chock-full of bonus resources. Students can choose from multiple course package options based on their learning needs and budget.

Type of EducationPrice RangeFeatures

My Expert Opinion on Superior School of Real Estate

Students have their pick of the litter with the diverse course options and hours offered by Superior School of Real Estate. In partnership with Colibri Real Estate, self-paced and virtual livestream are available. However, for students who prefer an in-person classroom experience, multiple locations in NC are available. Class times that include half days, full days, nights, and weekends make this school an accessible choice for many.

The Career Nights and Crammer courses are standout offerings compared to other schools. The Crammer course is recommended for current or past students and a great option for out-of-state licensees looking for reciprocity. It’s evident that the school wants students to feel supported and confident in their decision to pursue a career in the industry.

💡Room for improvement: Although Superior School of Real Estate offers resources to help students get up and running in real estate, the website does not offer many career resources to keep students coming back for more. Providing additional content and resources as students’ careers grow might benefit the school/student relationship.

Superior School of Real Estate Cost

Superior School of Real Estate offers a range of package options for its courses, including free online proctored exams, regular instructor support, progress quizzes, and career fairs. My Expert Opinion on Aceable Agent

The real estate industry is constantly changing, so Aceable Agent really sets itself apart as the best online real estate school in NC for real estate education designed for mobile. It was one of the first schools to offer this feature. While this may appeal to the more tech-savvy student, its website is straightforward to navigate for just about anyone.

With the “Ace or Don’t Pay” guarantee, you pass your test or get your money back. Although this may seem like a bold claim, I would feel compelled to give it a try if I saw a school offering this when I was deciding where to take my prelicensing course.

💡Room for improvement: Offering post-licensing and continuing education courses in more states will reach a larger audience and increase enrollments. It will also benefit past students, who can return for their real estate education needs. Currently, Aceable Agent only offers these courses in three states.

Aceable Agent Cost

When getting your real estate license in NC, Aceable Agent is among the more affordable options, offering abundant prelicensing resources. With an Ace or Don’t Pay guarantee, you will receive a refund if you don’t pass the real estate exam after three attempts.

My Expert Opinion on Trav Talks Real Estate

Trav Talks Real Estate offers a cost-effective option when looking for NC real estate schools. Although the courses are only offered online, the owner and instructors are local to North Carolina.

In addition to the standard coursework offered, the school’s YouTube channel offers an abundance of free videos. The videos are highly viewed and appreciated by people taking real estate courses. Overall, this school puts a fun twist on learning the material and is passionate about helping students succeed.

💡Room for improvement: There are numerous North Carolina real estate classes online; however, since Trav Talks Real Estate is a local school, it would be nice if it offered some in-person class options. This could open up a whole new group of students who prefer in-person learning.

Trav Talks Real Estate Cost

Trav Talks Real Estate offers transparent pricing with no additional fees for books or exam prep. All its courses, except exam prep, are taught with a live instructor online via Zoom.

My Expert Opinion on Carolina School of Real Estate

Get the basics with Carolina School of Real Estate. This school makes getting students through their main coursework its mission by offering prelicensing, post-licensing, and continuing education. It’s a great option for those interested in an in-person classroom setting, as it has a variety of course dates and locations available.

While you may not get the frills of career resources or coaching, this is a solid choice for having a more traditional classroom setting with an instructor working with you face-to-face. However, Carolina School of Real Estate partners with The CE Shop and Superior School of Real Estate for those who prefer self-paced online learning.

💡Room for improvement: The Carolina School of Real Estate website is dated, and the navigation makes it easy to miss courses and resources that it offers. I had to get lost on the site to find that it provides an exam prep course, among other features. Updating the information and design of the site could help draw in more students, as it offers a nice range of course dates and locations at a reasonable price.

Carolina School of Real Estate Cost

Compared to similarly priced schools, Carolina School of Real Estate offers more in-person options than most but lacks some bonus resources or add-on features. However, its CE and exam prep are among the more budget-friendly options across the board. Prices vary when taking its online courses via The CE Shop or Superior School of Real Estate

My Expert Opinion on New York Real Estate Institute

I consider New York Real Estate Institute (NYREI) the best real estate school in NY because of its lifetime job placement assistance. No other school on our list has that feature. Regardless of your niche, NYREI has relationships with some of the top real estate brokerages in New York to help you get started with your career.

💡Room for improvement: While NYREI has almost all the extra features you’ll want from a prelicensing package, I wish the school would extend its course access. Currently, students are only given four months to complete their courses, which isn’t reasonable with its hefty price tag. Extending the course access to at least a year would give students ample time to finish their courses without paying extra.

My Expert Opinion on The CE Shop

As an aspiring agent, you’ll want to find a school that can provide all the types of classes you’ll need throughout your real estate career—which is why I recommend The CE Shop. It has the most interesting real estate continuing education course selection in New York that you can find online. From fair housing to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) code of ethics course, The CE Shop offers all the required hours for your first and subsequent license renewals.

💡Room for improvement: The CE Shop is the best real estate course in New York online for continuing education. However, I think the only thing missing from The CE Shop’s offerings are interactive features such as live webinars and Q&A sessions. It would be the perfect addition to its prelicensing courses.

My Expert Opinion on Colibri Real Estate

With all the noteworthy features you’ll get from the Exam Prep Live package, it’s no wonder Colibri made it to my best real estate schools in NY list. Colibri offers everything you’ll need to feel confident for the real estate exam: Q&A sessions with expert instructors, audio course summaries you can listen to anytime, and a series of one-hour webinars. If these won’t give you the right amount of confidence, Colibri’s Pass or Don’t Pay guarantee will. Read our Colibri Real Estate review for more info.

💡Room for improvement: I thought it would be best if Colibri Real Estate added weekend schedules for its livestream classes for the benefit of those who work on weekdays.

My Expert Opinion on Kaplan

While most schools only focus on materials needed to pass the real estate exam, Kaplan stresses the importance of learning real-world skills and income-generating projects as an agent. The Real Estate Accelerator program and Career Mentor Connect are why I chose Kaplan as one of the best real estate schools in NY. Check out our comprehensive Kaplan review for more information.

💡Room for improvement: Kaplan has the second-most expensive basic prelicensing course on this list, so it would make a lot more sense for Kaplan to start adding a pass guarantee in all their packages.

In New York, Kaplan only offers self-paced courses. All packages include weekly live mentorship sessions online and access to an interactive study group. The more expensive options offer extras such as printed textbooks and live online coaching.

My Expert Opinion on Aceable Agent

After all the hours I spent evaluating the best real estate schools in NY, I am most impressed with Aceable Agent’s interface. It’s the only school on my list with a mobile app, so this provider is perfect for people on the go. Aceable Agent’s student dashboard is also easy to navigate, with audio guides, on-demand videos, practice quizzes, and highlights of the most important parts of every lesson. Read our Aceable Agent review for more information.

💡Room for improvement: It would be great if Aceable Agent could expand its services in more states and offer standalone test prep packages.

My Expert Opinion on RealEstateU

Even if it’s the cheapest real estate school in NY on our list, RealEstateU doesn’t skimp on key features. RealEstateU’s courses are easy-to-digest audio lectures over slides, with practice quizzes at the end of each chapter. If you’re the type of independent student who can easily focus on a task on your own, RealEstateU is the best choice.

💡Room for improvement: RealEstateU only has self-paced courses, so students cannot interact with their instructors and peers. That said, I wish RealEstateU would include live Q&A sessions in their course packages so students can ask questions in real time.

My Expert Opinion on Kaplan

As one of the best online real estate schools in California, Kaplan meets the demands of auditory and visual learners through its flexible learning options. Choose between self-paced, live online, and on-demand video courses. If you’re eyeing Kaplan, I recommend its Career Launcher option, where you’ll get access to interactive study groups, mentorship sessions, and live online coaching. With Kaplan’s Real Estate Accelerator course, you’ll learn all about income-producing activities and real-world skills that will help you as an agent. This sets Kaplan apart because most schools focus on what you need to pass the exam. Read our in-depth review of Kaplan for more information.

💡Room for improvement: Kaplan should start offering a pass guarantee. This guarantee will increase the number of its students and add more value to its prelicensing and exam prep packages. If the other schools on our list have a pass guarantee, Kaplan should level up too.

The company breaks down its courses into three formats: self-paced, on-demand videos, and live online. Within those three formats, they offer a variety of tiers. My Expert Opinion on The CE Shop

If you’re looking for a California real estate school with lots of continuing education options after you get licensed, this is the right one for you. The CE Shop prides itself on various interesting CE courses that will keep you coming back every renewal period. Whether you’re renewing your license for the first or tenth time, The CE Shop’s courses are always relevant to the ever-changing real estate landscape.

💡Room for improvement: In all the times I’ve reviewed The CE Shop, I’ve never seen them include networking opportunities for students and agents. That said, I’d like The CE Shop to offer more interactive package features, such as live webinars and Q&A sessions.

My Expert Opinion on Colibri Real Estate

Aside from its top-notch online learning platform, Colibri Real Estate’s exam prep materials are worthy of a special mention. The exam prep packages may be pricey, but everything included will help you pass the real estate exam. With Colibri’s test prep materials, you’ll get audio review guides to help you retain information easily, simulated exams to master common exam topics, and a readiness assessment to see how prepared you are for the exam. If these aren’t enough to convince you, check out our comprehensive Colibri Real Estate review.

💡Room for improvement: As of this writing, Colibri Real Estate doesn’t offer post-licensing and continuing education courses in California. The CE courses on Colibri’s website are offered through its partnership with McKissock Learning. That being said, I hope Colibri will offer post-licensing and CE courses in the near future.

My Expert Opinion on Aceable Agent

As the only school on this list with a mobile app, Aceable Agent will truly give you the bang for your buck. Its basic package already includes test prep materials and a mini-course on finding the right sponsoring broker. If you pay $220 more, you’ll get one hour of private tutoring, live webinars five times a week, and a live Q&A session. If you’re a go-getter who likes accomplishing tasks simultaneously, you’ll like Aceable Agent’s mobile app. You can read lessons, answer questions, and even listen to the narration on your app on-the-go!

💡Room for improvement: It would be great if Aceable Agent could expand its services in more states and offer continuing education and post-licensing courses. Read more about Aceable Agent in our review

My Expert Opinion on OnlineEd

If you’re looking for a California real estate school that won’t break the bank, this is it. As the cheapest real estate school on my list, keep in mind that OnlineEd doesn’t include many bonus materials in its packages. You’ll get text-heavy courses, which is beneficial if you learn best by reading.

💡Room for improvement: While I know that all of OnlineEd’s courses are designed for the budget-conscious, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to include extra features such as prerecorded real estate videos for visual learners.

All of OnlineEd’s offerings come with a printable certificate, which you’ll get after finishing the course.

McColly Real Estate offers:

  • Prelicensing
  • Exam prep
  • Post-licensing
  • Continuing education
  • Managing broker prelicensing

McColly Real Estate has been in operation since 1974 and teaches real estate in Indiana and Illinois. The company offers both in-person and online self-paced learning packages, and it’s the only Indiana real estate school on our list that offers in-person classes outside of Indianapolis. You can take their in-person classes in Crown Point, Highland, or Valparaiso.

McColly Real Estate Pricing

Depending on your online vs in-person preferences, McColly Real Estate offers three prelicensing packages for prospective Indiana brokers.

  • In-person Indiana Real Estate License ($549): Choose from morning, evening, or the one-month accelerated morning classes. This package includes a copy of your textbook.
  • Online Indiana Basic Package ($534): This self-paced online package includes your prelicensing student workbook, instructional videos, practice homework, and downloadable resources.
  • Online Indiana Premium Package ($639): You’ll get everything from the above package plus the school’s Review Crammer package, which includes hundreds of practice questions and a review of key concepts.

(Indiana prelicensing package prices as of November 2023)

Best Feature

I’m happy to see an in-person class option that doesn’t break the bank. Typically, in-person classes tend to cost more than their online counterparts, so this gives students who want in-class learning a break.

Room to Improve

McColly Real Estate’s affordable pricing doesn’t quite extend to their online packages, placing them around the average cost of packages with fewer features than Colibri Real Estate or The CE Shop.

Bottom Line

If in-person classes are a priority for you, you won’t be disappointed with McColly Real Estate.

Indiana Real Estate Institute offers:

  • Prelicensing
  • Exam prep
  • Post-licensing
  • Continuing education
  • Broker prelicensing

Founded in 1990, Indiana Real Estate Institute is one of the longest-running real estate schools in Indianapolis. The school prides itself in serving the needs of both prospective and licensed brokers across the metro area.

Indiana Real Estate Institute Pricing

Whether you prefer in-person, self-paced, or livestream classes, Indiana Real Estate Institute offers three prelicensing packages for aspiring brokers.

  • Basic ($539): Aside from your 90-hour course, this package includes digital copies of the course manual, handouts, study guides, and unlimited access to the school’s library of recorded classes.
  • Basic Plus ($579): This includes everything in the previous package, printed copies of the course manual, study guides, and instructor support via email.
  • Premier ($595): You’ll get everything from the above packages plus exam study guides, access to the school’s private Facebook community, over 150 videos,  more than 700 flashcards, virtual study sessions, and discounts on future classes.

(Indiana prelicensing package prices as of November 2023)

Best Feature

I love how Indiana Real Estate Institute helps narrow down options for students when they start interviewing with brokerages. The company is affiliated with a lot of brokers, so you can also ask them to help you with job placement after you get your license.

Room to Improve

From prelicensing to upgrading your license, the Indiana Real Estate Institute offers all the types of classes you’ll need throughout your career. The only thing I wish the school had is weekend classes. This way, students who work weekdays and are looking to tackle their courses during the weekends will have options.

Bottom Line

Before you start practicing real estate, you’ll need to affiliate with a brokerage. So, if you want to easily connect with managing brokers in the city, choose Indiana Real Estate Institute.

Tucker School of Real Estate offers:

  • Prelicensing
  • Exam prep
  • Post-licensing
  • Continuing education

Tucker School of Real Estate is one of Indianapolis’s largest real estate schools. They are a great local option, with many of their instructors having attended the Indiana University School of Business. They pride themselves on knowing the local market well.

You can take the 90-hour prelicensing course at Tucker School of Real Estate online or in person. Their campus is conveniently located in the heart of Indianapolis, and their instructors are committed to making sure you don’t leave class without feeling certain about the material.

Tucker School of Real Estate Pricing

Whether you choose to take your course at your own pace online or in person, Tucker School of Real Estate charges the same amount for the 90-hour prelicensing course.

  • Live 90-hour Broker Prelicensing Course ($599): In-person classes run weekdays on half days or evenings. Or choose the 15-day accelerated course that runs full-time Monday through Friday.
  • Virtual/Zoom 90-hour Broker Prelicensing Course ($599): This package is the same as the live option above, but you’ll take your classes from the comfort of home.
  • Online 90-hour Broker Prelicensing Course ($599): Choose this option if you prefer to work at your own pace. You’ll get access to videos, quizzes, and interactive material to help you get through the course.

(Indiana prelicensing package prices as of November 2023)

Best Feature

My favorite feature is the 15-day accelerated in-person course option. It’s perfect for someone who wants to efficiently power through the prelicensing material. By heading to class full time, you’ll have access to your instructor, who designs the course by starting with the essential concepts. Aside from that, I love Tucker School of Real Estate’s continuing education courses. They have lots of interesting topics to choose from, so you don’t have to look for another school once you’re licensed.

Room to Improve

Tucker School of Real Estate’s pricing isn’t the most affordable on this list, and the school could do better by adding extra features to their packages such as test prep materials or career development courses.

Bottom Line

Tucker School of Real Estate is a great local option if you’re in the Indianapolis area and want to get your course done quickly.

My Verdict on Colibri Real Estate

Colibri Real Estate is an ideal option for just about anyone who needs to complete their required real estate prelicensing education. It’s not the basement-level budget option RealEstateU offers and doesn’t have as many livestream opportunities as Kaplan, but the interface is better than their closest competitor, The CE Shop. To that point, I’ve seen a lot of improvement in their interface over the years and I love that commitment to innovation. The price point, access to instructors, and customer support make Colibri Real Estate an excellent choice. Plus, they offer a money-back guarantee that you’ll pass your real estate exam.

Colibri Real Estate Prelicensing Pricing for 2024

While I focused mostly on reviewing Colibri’s prelicensing education, it’s important to note that they offer exam prep and continuing education in every state. Colibri also offers broker education in nine states and post-licensing in states where it is required. Their pricing, across packages, aligns pretty closely with the major online schools in the industry, such as Kaplan, The CE Shop, and Aceable Agent

While pricing depends on how many hours of education your state requires and other variables, here’s the basic breakdown of Colibri’s packages.

Value for Money

Colibri is priced around the same point as Kaplan, The CE Shop, and Aceable Agent, but we’re very impressed with the features included in the Colibri packages. Not only do you have several options to choose from, but most packages include Colibri’s exceptional exam prep resources and its Pass or Don’t Pay guarantee (note that the guarantee does not apply to students in Florida or Tennessee). Even if Colibri doesn’t offer prelicensing education in your state, it’s worth looking into their exam prep courses, which are offered in all 50 states.

What Does Colibri Real Estate Offer in My State?

Colibri Real Estate prelicensing is currently available in almost every state, with broker licensing offered in nine states.  Exam prep and continuing education packages are in every state. Note that Colibri’s continuing education is done by its sister company, McKissock. Also the company has the following local schools under its umbrella: Superior School of Real Estate, Hondros College, Arizona School of Real Estate & Business, Hogan School of Real Estate, Rockwell Institute, Gold Coast Schools, and Key Realty School. This really just means they offer the same online experience and more live in-person options.

Walk-through Video

What Sets Colibri Real Estate Apart

There are some really excellent online real estate education providers, but Colibri continues to innovate and stand out from the crowd. Here’s a breakdown of why they are consistently picked as our top online real estate school:

Room for Improvement

We would like to see Colibri offer livestream courses in more states, as opposed to just a handful (such as California, Texas, and New York).

The lowest-priced packages don’t offer many bells and whistles, which might be frustrating for budget-conscious students looking for exam prep. Those who want just their state’s course content at a bargain price, or who’ve already been licensed in another state and need to check this education box, might want to consider a provider like RealEstateU.

The Bottom Line: Is Colibri Worth the Money?

Yes. Based on my thorough Colibri Real Estate review, I believe that the platform definitely lives up to the hype. Colibri Real Estate provides comprehensive courses that are widely available at affordable prices. Their Pass or Don’t Pay guarantee and dedication to innovation add to the many reasons I recommend this provider and why I’ve chosen Colibri Real Estate as our best online real estate school. If you want a quality education at an affordable price with excellent preparation for the real estate exam, Colibri is the right school for you.

Colibri Alternatives

Of course, Colibri Real Estate is not the only game in town. There are many education providers to fit every budget and learning style. Consider these four national providers, or refer to our state-specific guides to see what school we recommend for your state.

Real Estate SchoolBest ForStarting Price
Kaplan Real EstateLivestream$249
The CE ShopExam prep$139
Aceable AgentMobile$116
RealEstateUStudents on a budget$69

Methodology

You can count on my Colibri Real Estate review to be thoughtful and objective both from a real estate perspective and the standpoint of someone who’s taken prelicensing classes and passed my state’s exam.

Specifically, when I evaluate a real estate school, I’m looking at:

  • The education provider’s accreditation
  • Pricing and value for money
  • Specific packages offered
  • The diversity of course offerings
  • Customer support
  • Access to instructors
  • Scheduling flexibility
  • Content delivery options
  • Continuing education options
  • Networking and career placement opportunities
  • Expertise of instructors

I use these questions and more to put together our weighted scoring rubric. And that, along with my own decades of experience and expertise, make this a comprehensive review.

The CE Shop Review: Real Estate Courses & Test Prep

Best Feature

The CE Shop makes self-paced, on-demand learning easy. That’s why we think their best feature is the variety of continuing education courses. Whether you opt for a CE package or individual classes, you’ll be on the right track to renew your license when the time comes.

Room to Improve

While The CE Shop is our pick for self-paced learning, the six-month time limit on course access makes for a smaller window of opportunity for students studying part-time or on a more sporadic basis. An extended expiration—plus more direct access to instructors—would make The CE Shop even more appealing.

Bottom Line

If you’re new to real estate and looking to cover all of your bases in one go, The CE Shop is a solid option. Hawaii licensees can choose from every course needed to keep their real estate career moving.

  • Online Independent Study ($475): You’ll get access to the 60-hour online prerecorded course, textbook, and study materials. International textbook shipping costs an additional $50. This package also includes supplemental audio and video archive access.
  • Live Webinar Classroom ($500): Similar to classroom-style learning, these live, scheduled classes provide a more structured, interactive experience. With the aid of an included textbook, you’ll complete the 60-hour course through GoTo webinars over four weeks with three sessions per week.

Best Feature

We’re big fans of Abe Lee Seminars’ No Pass No Pay guarantee for live webinar students, which states that if you don’t pass the school’s final exam with a 70% score or higher, you can re-attend the courses once more at no additional charge. The only catch? You must re-attend within six months of taking the course exam.

Room to Improve

We’d like to see Abe Lee Seminars offer exam prep and broker courses. Given rave reviews that mention their instructor’s engaging anecdotes and relaxing-yet-informative teaching style, exam prep courses would certainly benefit students who want a little more support in that area. And such expertise would likely make for great broker courses as well.

Bottom Line

Abe Lee Seminars is a great, affordable local learning outlet for real estate students. You can’t beat the combination of direct access to knowledgeable instructors, live webinars, and online video archives.

  • Continuing ed (via Continuing Ed Express)
  • Broker courses
  • Exam prep

Looking for live online instruction to carry you through the prelicensing process? Carol Ball School of Real Estate’s live online Zoom classes provide students with a well-rounded assortment of learning mediums, including lectures and discussions, daily quizzes and reviews, anecdotes, reading materials, and memory aids.

Past students described the live classes as intense and fast-paced, but credit the instructors with being readily available for help and making the course material informative, memorable, and fun. Based on these reviews, this combination makes for a personable and interactive learning experience that ultimately sets a solid foundation for real estate success.

Carol Ball School of Real Estate Pricing

With Carol Ball School of Real Estate, you can complete the 60-hour course entirely independently or live via Zoom:

  • Online Course ($429): Modeled after the school’s live class, this on-demand and self-paced course is offered through Continuing Ed Express. You’ll get everything you need to study independently, including end-of-chapter snapshots, audio prefaces from the instructor on each chapter, course overviews, visual aids, chapter quizzes, and study tips. Best Feature

Carol Ball Real Estate School’s live classes are its winning feature, based on its many positive reviews. Past students mentioned their appreciation for the instructor’s ability to incorporate humor and fun into the course content. While several schools on our list offer some class time via Zoom, Carol Ball Real Estate School gives you all 60 hours in this format. For fast-paced learners who thrive in a more structured, interactive learning environment, Carol Ball Real Estate School is an excellent—and local—option.

Room to Improve

It’s clear that exam prep is naturally built into the live course offering, but the additional $200 cost of the Hawaii real estate book for exam prep is a steep add-on for students enrolled in the on-demand course. Alternatively, a specific exam prep course—especially one that would be as engaging and informative as the Zoom course—would benefit both independent students and those with established real estate experience who might be expanding their reach to Hawaii.

Bottom Line

For live online instruction that injects a little more life and laughter into the learning experience, look no further than Carol Ball School of Real Estate. We look forward to seeing more rave reviews from future Hawaii real estate students.

Vitousek Real Estate School offers:

  • Prelicensing
  • Exam prep
  • Broker courses

As our learning landscape continuously adapts to online courses, you might be wondering where in-person learning is still an option. Enter: Vitousek Real Estate School, our pick for the best of both worlds in Hawaii real estate schools. The In-Classroom/Home Study combination package gives students the opportunity to learn in a structured, scheduled Honolulu-based classroom before completing the remainder of the course from home at their own pace. According to past students, the in-person class size was perfect for discussion and the experience provided real-life examples and tips that you wouldn’t get from static learning.

It’s also worth noting that the school is known for its caring team and commitment to providing student support—such as offering additional study sessions after the course concludes—until candidates successfully pass the state exam. Reviewers double down on this, calling out the professional and knowledgeable instructors who are committed to their students’ success and work to ensure they understand the course content.

Vitousek Real Estate School Pricing

In Hawaii, Vitousek Real Estate School offers three learning options for would-be agents:

  • Hard Copy Independent Study ($450 plus $50 textbook): Learn offline with this self-directed, hard-copy course. With the aid of a textbook, exam prep book, and study guide, you will complete the workbook’s lessons, assignments, and quizzes at your own pace.
  • Online Independent Study ($475): This fully on-demand, online 60-hour class includes the course text, interactive quizzes, reading assignments, instructional graphics, and chapter reviews.

Best Feature

The most balanced prelicensing course on this list, Vitousek Real Estate School’s In-Classroom/Home Study package is something we haven’t seen offered by any other real estate schools in Hawaii. It truly is a best-of-both-worlds option for Oahu-based students who want to split their time between a classroom and their own space—and for a good price, at that.

Room to Improve

Course enrollment through Vitousek Real Estate School is a little outdated, requiring potential students to print and mail their registration and payment. This also applies to exam prep kit purchases. A little updating could go a long way for future students!

Bottom Line

Whether you’re an adaptable learner who likes a classroom environment as much as an independent study session or you’re simply indecisive (we’ve all been there), Vitousek Real Estate School’s combination course will tick all the boxes. And better yet, they’ll stick with you until you pass your Hawaii real estate exam.

Metropolitan School of Real Estate’s founder discovered a passion for teaching when he mentored new agents at his brokerage. Metropolitan School of Real Estate Pricing

You’ll only find one package on offer at Metropolitan School of Real Estate. However, students can select a time that fits their preferred schedules and pacing. Some sessions meet one weekend a month for three months. Others allow you to complete all of the classes within a week.

American Real Estate Academy (AREA) offers:

  • Prelicensing
  • Exam prep
  • Continuing education
  • Broker prelicensing

American Real Estate Academy is the state’s largest and longest-running local real estate school. They’ve been serving prospective Massachusetts real estate agents since 1972.

AREA is proud of their dedicated, expert instructors who help the institution maintain pass rates on the license exam that they describe as well above the state average. They ensure class time is valuable with in-depth instructor support and scheduled classes to keep you on track.

American Real Estate Academy Pricing

There are three options at American Real Estate Academy: two classroom prelicensing courses and one online prelicensing package.

  • All Online ($245): In this package, you’ll get half of the course in a self-paced format and the other half via scheduled livestream classes. You’ll also enjoy practice exams, more than 400 practice questions, and access to on-demand course review videos.
  • In-person Weekdays ($425): Enjoy scheduled classroom instruction in Weston, Massachusetts, over two weeks from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Again, your course includes practice exams, more than 400 practice questions, and access to on-demand course review videos as well as a textbook.
  • In-person Weekends ($425): You’ll get all the features of the above package, but your course will be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. across two weekends.

(American Real Estate Academy prelicensing package prices as of November 2023)

Best Feature

In-person real estate classes are almost always significantly more expensive than their online counterparts, but American Real Estate Academy offers instructors who can break down challenging content at a reasonable price. They’ll not only ensure you leave knowing your stuff, but they’re also available for in-the-moment questions during lesson time.

Room to Improve

We’d like to see AREA provide more exam prep tools to help students study. While they do provide practice exams and questions, it would also be nice to see helpful material for people on the go, like digital flashcards.

Bottom Line

If you prefer a scheduled in-person learning experience in MA, there’s no better place than American Real Estate Academy to get started.
