So you are probably doing the rest of us a favor and the community. Thank you.

Liz, totally agree! and don’t worry, we cover men too and there are 27 things not to wear on their list! Everyone should feel comfortable with what works for their brand, just as long as it’s professional!

Anything with “The Jones Group ~ Keller Williams Realty” like nice polo shirts, sweaters, blouses, and I wear my name badge religigiously. Never know when you’ll pick up a client that way! I love business casual, but there are times when a suit, or jeans, comfy shoes are needed.

This is the real world now, it’s not ‘all about you’ anymore. If it is, then maybe you’d be happier at Abercromby & Fitch. People will gravitate to the person who they subconsciously trust, especially when making $400,000+ decisions.

Dressing for yourself and your personality, while keeping in mind your client and their needs, is the only parameter we should be setting. It’s that simple. Fashion rules don’t exist anymore, and unless you’re instructed to wear a uniform or there are specific guidelines in a work place, as independent contractors, dressing to express our personalities is a bonus of being our own bosses.

And that’s the beauty of being self employed and you can work with whoever you want. All my clients know what I do and they all know that if I’m in the middle of shoveling shit or dealing with birthing calves, in the middle of doing a floor & they call me, they know I’ll drop everything and go. No questions are asked except how decent are you? If I’m covered in shit, they know I’ll change clothes but it’s always on the fly so no telling how I’m gonna show up. And they know I Lena business no matter what attire I have on 😊

This feels so wrong. EVERYONE should wear professional attire – we represent our industry, our company and our own brand. If my brand is jeans and blouses, fabulous for me. If a guy’s is polo shirts and khakis, good on him. No one should wear ripped jeans or shorts.
